OLUTANGA, Zamboanga Sibugay, Newly-installed Mayor Arthur Ruste Sr. has vowed to continue the programs of his predecessor geared towards
the progress of this municipality. Ruste made the pledged after Gov. Wilter Palma installed him as the new mayor of this town replacing the late Mayor Hilario Capotulan Jr.

“I promise to continue what our beloved mayor has started for the progress of our town,” Ruste said. He is the 7th mayor of this town.
Capotulan, 48, a lawyer, died last October 8 due to liver ailment while attending the executive-legislative confab along with the members of the municipal council in Cagayan de Oro City.
Capotulan was on his second term of office as he was re-elected in the May 9 national and local elections. He was interred on Tuesday at the public cemetery of this town.
Ruste, following the law on succession, will automatically become the mayor while the number one councilor will be the vice mayor.
“Mayor Capotulan was working hard for the development of Olutanga,” Palma noted.
Joel Autida, the number one councilor, succeeded Ruste as the vice mayor. He took his oath before Vice Governor Eldwin Alibutdan.
Ruste and Autida are partymates of Capotulan and they won convincingly in the last elections.
Meanwhile, Palma is waiting for the recommendation of the Olutanga town officials as to who will fill in the two vacant seats in the eight-man municipal council.
There are two vacant seats in the municipal council since no one has been named yet to replace Councilor Manuel Endino Sr., who died earlier this year, aside from the seat Autida left vacant when he was installed as the new vice mayor.
Olutanga, which comprises of 19 barangays, is a fourth class town of this province with a population of 33,671 based on the 2010 census.
